Moxy York set to open

Located centrally in Stonebow in the heart of the city, the new hotel will have 118 bedrooms and promises to offer something quite unlike any other hotel in York.   Creating 17 jobs, Belvar, the management group operating the hotel, have appointed Tristan Ciancio as Captain of the property, the brand’s take on a General Manager.

Aged 38, Ciancio will launch Marriott’s 7th Moxy in the UK and brings a wealth of over 20 years’ experience to his first General Manager’s post.  Originally from Middlesbrough, Ciancio knows the area and market extremely well as he has worked in York for the last 15 years.  No stranger to opening hotels he was previously Deputy Manager at Hotel Indigo in York when it launched in 2015.   Ciancio commented; “I am proud to be opening this hotel where there is nothing quite like Moxy York in the city.  We think guests will love the quirky and playful spirit that Moxy brings, especially the striking design element which will really impress guests as it sums up York beautifully.”

Following the Moxy tradition, the new hotel will reflect its locality with an interior theme based around Knights and The Shambles as a nod to York’s iconic history.   The hotel’s 118 bedrooms will include 79 Moxy Sleepers, 12 twin rooms, 21 Moxyfied Peak Sleepers with extra amenities and 6 Family Rooms.

Belvar, continue to push the boundaries of hotel travel as each Moxy opens.  Donovan Sumner, Moxy Operations Officer UK commented; “This is our 4th hotel opening in England in just over 2 years but most significantly our 1st hotel in an English city location outside of London.  Moxy Edinburgh Airport also opened earlier this year and the brand is expanding nicely across the UK.  Thanks to the hotel’s lively and dynamic social scene, Moxy is now at the forefront of new trends within the hotel industry.  For us it’s about creating the unexpected for millennial travellers where choice is at a premium.  Tristan’s reputation and vast hotel experience is a huge asset to Moxy and we look forward to throwing open the doors to Moxy York this summer.”

Belvar is currently operating 15 Moxy hotels and has opened 6 UK hotels since 2016.  There are already 29 worldwide Moxy hotels and Belvar has 7 planned openings this year within Europe including Southampton, Paris and Verona.
